Our History
Fremont Christian School was opened by First Assembly of God, Fremont in Fall 1968 with Rev. C.K. Rankin as the first principal. Senior Pastor Leroy Cloud led the congregation in its desire to establish a K-12 program in the city of Fremont. As a department of First Assembly of God, Fremont Christian School was conceived to not only provide a service to Christian parents but also to be an evangelistic outreach to the community for any family open to spiritual growth, character formation and academic attainment. Our school verse, adopted during the Fall of 2006 by a faculty committee, is Luke 2:52. While using the verse is new, the ideas within it have been part of FCS since the beginning. This verse is the foundation for our expected student learning results (ESLRs): And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

FCS continues today to contribute to the growth of the mind, the body, and the spirit of its students while instilling in them a strong sense of community. The school graduated its first class in 1976 and was first accredited with the Association of Christian Schools International and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1978.

Throughout the 1980s Fremont Christian experienced great growth alongside that of the church. In 1994, Pastor Terry Inman became the Senior Pastor of First Assembly. Under Pastor Inman’s leadership, the church changed its name to Harbor Light Church to better represent the role of this church as a place God works through to rescue, recover, rebuild and release His people. From the pulpit of Harbor Light, Fremont Christian School is regularly referred to as its largest ministry.

Fremont Christian celebrated its fortieth year during the 2007-2008 school year.A new logo was adopted for the anniversary. This anniversary gave FCS the perfect opportunity to seek out its alumni. A two year process of looking for alumni online, establish an alumni website, creating a seasonal alumni magazine and planning the celebration weekend resulted in a catered banquet for 250 alumni and their guests as well as campus tours. The Harbor Light service on April 20 involved an Alumni Choir, alumni speakers, alumni-led worship and more. It was a great success in connecting with the more than 1500 past graduates of FCS.

Fremont Christian School has experienced blessings again and again in the form of real estate availability, long-term leadership, long-term staff, strong financial management and more. Over the years, numerous campus locations have melded into one Preschool-12 campus of 16 acres which includes the church sanctuary. It is conveniently located near the I-880 freeway. Our Master Plan allows us to maintain all of our Preschool-12 programs, our church sanctuary, a full athletic program and faculty housing on this land. In addition to Superintendent-Emeritus Rankin’s service of 42 years, Business Administrator Sherry Miller was part of the Church congregation that voted to begin the school, and Superintendent/Secondary Principal Tricia Meyer attended FCS from Kindergarten (1974) through High School Graduation (1987) returning as a full-time employee in 1994. Pastor Inman saw his 5 youngest sons graduate from FCS during his long-term tenure.
