Students at FCS enjoy an array of artistic outlets and opportunities for development. FCS offers several types of art classes to a span of secondary grade levels.

Art I: Drawing
This foundational course provides students with the primary skills needed to succeed in all other disciplines of art, by teaching how to incorporate the elements of art (space, line, texture, shape, form, and value) into their work. The course curriculum includes the use of various drawing techniques and media and studying the work of master artists.

Art II: 2D Design
Art II Design develops students’ ability to combine perceptual, intellectual, and technical skills in creative problem solving by exploring a variety of media. Students learn about aesthetics, art criticism, and art theory and become equipped to participate in informed critiques about artwork from the past and present, including their own. Emphasis is placed on the intrinsic value of self-expression through the visual arts, the power of imagery, and the ability to analyze art and design in their historical and contemporary cultural contexts.

AP Studio Art: Drawing
This studio art class is designed for the advanced art student to develop a comprehensive portfolio. Students submit a minimum of 24 works of art to the AP College Board, which then grades the portfolio on a scale of 1-6. Students receiving a passing score (3-6) can receive college credit for the course. The class focuses on two-dimensional works that challenge students to expand their skills to creatively integrate a wide range of media and techniques.
